A Year Without a
Smartphone

Client:

The NYT Kid China

As adults, moms and dads are always busy. Their phones keep ringing even after work. Sometimes it seems like they have been “kidnapped” by their phones. However, frustrated as they are, it's still hard to abandon the phones. But some adults have given them up, and Leon is one of them. Having studied digital sociology, Leon now works in the consulting industry. His experiences got him thinking about the relationship between people and digital technology. Eventually, he decided to put away his smartphone to regain inner peace and a keen sense of the real world. He has been living this way for a year now. Here's what a typical “phone-free”

day for him is like.
